Who Told You That? Silencing the Lies That Keep You Stuck

Let’s be real—some of the hardest battles we fight don’t happen in the world around us. They happen in the mind.

If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in cycles of insecurity, fear, or self-doubt, this question might stop you in your tracks:
Who told you that?

That you’re not good enough.
That you’re too much.
That you’ll always be broken.
That your past disqualifies you.
That you’ll never be loved like that.

Where the Lies Begin

As Christian women, we often carry silent scars from words that were never healed, or expectations we were never meant to meet. Maybe it was a parent, a teacher, a toxic relationship—or even yourself. These lies creep in subtly and settle in like truth.

But Genesis 3:11 gives us a clue. After Adam and Eve sinned, they hid themselves, and God asked, “Who told you that you were naked?” In other words—who gave you that narrative?

It wasn’t God.

Recognizing the Root

Most of the lies that keep us stuck are rooted in:

  • Comparison (especially on social media)

  • Unhealed trauma

  • Religious shame (not the same as conviction)

  • Words spoken in anger or ignorance

  • Internalized fear or rejection

And the truth is, you can’t heal what you won’t name. That’s why awareness is step one. Faith and mental health go hand in hand here. We can pray and go to therapy. We can believe God and do the work.

Replacing Lies with Truth

Here’s how to start breaking free:

1. Call it out.

Write down every negative belief that pops up in your head. “I’ll never be enough.” “I’m not smart.” “No one really sees me.”
Then ask: Who told me that? And what does God say instead?

2. Speak back with Scripture.

Replace the lie with truth. Here are a few swaps:

  • Lie: I’m too broken to be used by God.
Truth: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

  • Lie: I have to earn love.
Truth: “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

  • Lie: I’m always overlooked.
Truth: “You are the God who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13)

3. Curate your intake.

What you consume feeds what you believe. Follow pages that uplift. Tune into voices that align with who you’re becoming, not who you were.

At Saved Girl, we believe your mindset matters. Every product we offer—from t-shirts to declarations—is a reminder that your words shape your world.

When Healing Feels Slow

Healing isn’t instant. But every time you reject a lie and speak life instead, you’re reclaiming territory. You’re rewiring patterns. You’re saying, “This ends with me.”

The enemy wants you to stay stuck. But the truth makes you free—and that truth is a person.

His name is Jesus.

And He already called you:

  • Worthy

  • Chosen

  • Empowered

  • Whole

So the next time those old thoughts come up, stand tall, adjust your crown, and ask again: Who told you that?
